What is RAM

WHAT IS RAM (Random Access Memory)?

RAM or Random Access Memory, is used in the pc for its primary memory.  RAM is volatile memory. That means data is retained in RAM as long as the computer is on, but it is lost when the computer is turned off. Because of its volatility, Random Access Memory can't store permanent data. RAM can be compared to a person's short-term memory, and a hard drive to a person's long-term memory. Short-term memory is focused on immediate work, but it can only keep a limited number of facts in view at any one time. RAM is group of integrated circuit (IC or chips) that contain small electronic components (called capacitors) that binary 1s and 0s.

The RAM method was first used in the Williams tube created by Freddie Williams. These were stored as electrically charged spots on the face of CRT (cathode ray tube).
The capacity of this Williams tube was only around a few thousand bits. But it was much smaller, faster and powerful. It was built at the University of Manchester, England. The Williams tube was then stored as an electronically stored-memory program on the Small-Scale Experimental Machine (SSEM) computer, and the computer was successfully run on 21 June 1948

How many types of RAM?
There are mainly 3 types of RAM:-
The full name of DRAM is dynamic random access memory. It needs a refresh power to work. And it has transistor and capacitor for the memory cell.

It was built in the 1970s and is used in video game consoles, networking hardware, and system memory, etc.
This is known as DRAM, the DRAM has a data memory cell store, each memory cell consists of a transistor and a capacitor, with a small amount of data stored, but about 4 seconds later the memory cell controls the memory. Refresh means that they rewrite the data, so DRAM is much slower, but it is less power than other memory Eats and is not bad for a long time

Advantage of DRAM
Its advantages are: -

It is cheaper than SRAM.
Its memory cell structure is very simple.
Its size is very small.
Its storage capacity is high.
Disadvantage of DRAM
Its speed is very low compared to SRAM.
When the power is lost, its data ends.
It has more power consumption.

Single data rate synchronous dynamic RAM (SDR SDRAM)

Double data rate synchronous dynamic RAM (DDR SDRAM, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4)
Synchronous RAM is faster than DRAM, because it refreshes faster than DRAM, synchronous RAM is refreshed with CPU Clock Speed, so it can transfer data faster.
It is known as SRAM, Static RAM is less refreshed but it keeps the data in memory for longer time, it stores the data as long as the system gets the current it very fast. Access Static RAM until the data is refreshed until the data is stored; it is also called Cache Ram.
SRAM uses many abstract transistors for each memory cell but does not have a capacitor for each cell.

Nowadays it is used in cache memory and registers. It was discovered in the 1990s and is used in digital cameras, routers, printers and LCD screens.

Advantage of SRAM
Its advantages are as follows: -

It is much faster than DRAM.
There is no need to refresh it.
It is used to create a cache.
It requires medium power.
Disadvantage of SRAM
Its disadvantages are as follows;

It is expensive compared to DRAM.
It is volatile when there is no power and then its data is lost.
Its storage capacity is less.

Its design is very complex.
